Oh Yeah and some valuable information

I forgot to tell this little story from last week:

Last Thursday I was over at my friend/neighbor Becca's house with Alicia and I had my cell phone in my jacket pocket. I was wearing a jacket I haven't worn all winter. First on a sidebar note: My cell phone number has changed and if you call 310-0209 you will get Rocky's father! He took over the phone so that I don't have to be part of the plan anymore. My new number is 318-3682. BUT that doesn't even matter because of what happened Thursday. I was walking back over to my own house to get things packed for coming to NC when I see that some idiot had kicked the recycling bins around and a bunch of trash was in the sidewalk and the road. Now, keep in mind in VT it was snowing, then freezing, then melting, then snowing again so there is mud EVERYWHERE and puddles and salt etc. I bent down to pick up the recyclables and put them back in the bins. Then I went inside and got ready to go to a much needed therapy session. I didn't think much about my phone because I didn't need it, but I did check to see if I had it and I saw that I did not. I figured it was inside on the table because I had run in to grab my keys and I had no recollection of what I had done with it. Oh well, I thought to myself, I don't need it right now anyway.

When I got back home an hour and a half later I looked in my house for it. I couldn't find it anywhere. Then a horrible feeling washed over me: what if it had fallen in the snow outside and I had run over it? SHIT!!! So I raced outside and looked in the driveway but no phone. Then I looked up toward the recycling bins. I ran over and looked down and there, in a big ol' mud puddle, was my month old LG phone laying face up. It was barely above water. I picked it up and ran back inside saying "oh shit oh shit no no no" because i have no money for a new one and I know what a-holes the people at Verizon are (even though the ads make it sound like they are all about making and keeping YOU happy). There was no moisture in the screen because it was face up which was good, but it was absolutely soaked on the bottom since it had been laying there for over an hour. I shook it out and took it apart and dried it best I could over the next few hours. I took off the back and took out the battery which for some reason had a red triangular sticker on the bottom that I had never noticed (and why would I anyway). For some reason that sticker stood out to me.

Later at my parents house I called Verizon to see if they would replace the phone or what they could do. The girl said, "Is there any damage to the stickers behind the battery?" and I thought she meant the label stickers which looked just fine so I said "No." and she said I could bring the phone in and they would give me a new one for free if it would not turn on since that would be considered a manufacturing defect (I flat out told her that I had dropped it in a puddle at this point too). She also said that that particular phone would cost me over $200 for a brand new one at retail prices if there turned out to be any evidence of it being water damaged. I said, "Are you kidding me?? $200??? That's ridiculous!!" I think I flustered her a bit because I was seriously astonished. That phone is so basic and it only cost Kris $20 when he added my line to his plan. I hung up and then looked at that red sticker again. My brain was telling me that that sticker meant something. I went on Google and typed in "water damage indicator on cell phones" and sure enough, that sticker was white with little red + signs on it until a drop of water touched it. I also found out that a way to protect yourself so to speak against that sticker screwing you in the end while you are trying to screw the cell phone company is to put a piece of clear tape over it when you first get the phone and that way no water can touch it. Of course, that is a live and learn lesson! So just in case anyone else Googles "water damage indicator on cell phones" I hope this will help them!!!

I am currently trying to get a phone from eBay that is cheaper yet better. I am bidding 40$ on a new but box opened Motorola Razr that is LOCKED which is another sucky obstacle. I didn't realize it was locked when I first bid and didn't think to ask until I had already put in a bid. I plan to pay for it with the jewelry money I have made this month. But unlocking it may cost upwards of another 50$!!! That really sucks. I have always wanted a Razr since it came out and I have only heard good things about them from the friends I know that own them. And its hot pink ;-) Here is a pic:Mmmmmmmmm MMMM!!! Me likey :) But I fear that unlocking this phone might not make it worth it. I'm investigating some hack sites to see if there is a way to do it but it doesn't look good. You can find just about anything on the internet though if you just keep looking....!!!

Sorry to hear about the phone/water incident, and I hope and pray you're able to get another phone without paying a ton!
