Goodbye, North Carolina. Don't worry, I'll be back!

Ugh we are on our way back. I can't believe it is Friday already! I also can't believe Easter is this weekend! So not prepared for that. I don't know what I will do for the kids since I have them Sunday and I won't have time to get an easter basket together for them. Maybe I can hit the Dollar General Saturday night....

So to recap the trip if you are interested:

I totally want to go to a service here

Monday we arrived at the Surf Side hotel in Nag's Head. It was overcast and windy and we didn't really do too much. Tuesday was also chilly and windy and not great temperatures. We went to the Wings souvenir shop and got a few things, and the kids got to collect shells on the beach. I have some videos of it and pictures of course :)

And of the ocean. I love the sound of the waves crashing on the beach. Who doesn't? I also like the sound of a train rushing by even with the loud siren sounds. Its very soothing to me. Sometimes I wish I lived even closer to the tracks in Milton...sometimes!

Alex daring the ocean to touch him

I have so many more pictures and videos but STILL my camera refuses to work!

So traveling with the kids was alright...but not as great as I wish it could have been. Alex drove me NUTS all week. He just pushes buttons left and right (imaginary ones) and picks on Alicia purposely ( i know, i know) and he is SOOOOO hyper and doesn't listen. He's a great kid most of the time and I hate feeling like he is an annoying little pest because I adore him but argh he was an annoying little pest!!!!!! haha!!! And Alicia is sooooooooooooooo clingy and needy and demanding of my attention (and so cute she usually gets it) so it just makes him that much worse. What I need to do is schedule one day a week of me and alex time. He's in school so for most of the week I don't really notice that he and I never really do much together and that I do EVERYTHING with Alicia. Its not fair to him at all.

Alicia checking out the Chinese Princess Doll at the NC Museum of Natural History

So back to NC. Wednesday was warm and -yep- WINDY as hell!! But it was warm, and the sun was out for most of the day. We played on the dunes in the morning and I got to run on them a bit. I hurt my leg running up the stairs in the morning (forgot to stretch) but I suffered through because I wanted to enjoy myself. Then we drove out to Cape Hatteras and checked out the lighthouse and the beach. We also went to the Pea Island nature conservancy for like 5 minutes and I saw a snapping turtle! They look like an alligator and a turtle combined yikes!!
It rained like a bugger on Wednesday night and I think we got a small taste of what a hurricane is probably like...scary!!!

Slippery Dick, the fish

We went to the Aquarium on Thursday which is in Manteo. WOW what a cool place!!! The kids loved it and so did I! I pet the sting rays (barbs removed every 6 weeks) and we sat in on a "seminar" about sharks that Alex really liked. He had so many questions and comments that he wanted to ask the teacher but there were a lot of kids there so he didn't really get to. I loved watching the fish swim in the huge aquariums. Its so peaceful. I really wish I could afford a big tank but NOPE not right now! Thursday was also fairly warm but still windy. Not as bad as Wednesday though!

Hoi wahn haaaaang choi la baaang! That means "Look out coz I'm not!"

Today we woke up to a cooler but not cold day with NO WIND!!! Also of course the day that we had to leave. The sky was clear and blue all day that we were driving and the traffic wasn't too bad. We hit a snag in Delaware on the interstate because there was a tractor trailer accident that involved injuries that took a while to clean up. Those TT drivers are SOOO dangerous. They drive too fast, too close together with other semis, and in lanes they are not supposed to be in. That combined with people that drive their sports cars at 100 mph that are so low they are always in your blind spot is a deadly mix. I am not surprised at all that this happened and does happen every single day. I just pray no one was killed.

Tomorrow it is back to snow and misery. Hahaha I just am NOT looking forward to it. It will be good to see Kris of course but other than that and seeing my other friends there is really nothing that is exciting me about going back. And after being in Sarah and Matt's beautiful, sparse, white apartment (no kids to destroy it!) and in hotels where someone makes your bed every day and the decor is nice, my house is going to seem like a cluttery, mismatched prison. At least until summer and possibly the rental of a dumpster in the near future........

I'll post more when I get the pictures!! Good night!

I'm glad you had a good trip for the most part. Sorry to hear about the traveling with the kiddies not being super great, but I guess you'll have that at their ages. BUT you're right, maybe you should make a designated time for Alex for mommy/son time....but I'm sure you're a good mom anyway...

I enjoyed reading your blogs (as always) and looking at the pics and video : )
