Ammonite says What?
This is my newest fascination for Jewelry: Fossils
I purchased this Ammonite fossil set from Ebay Express (I had sold a necklace for more than these were going for so I used that to buy them) and I plan to make 2 killer necklaces from them. They are only 24 mm but that is just fine for what I have in mind. What is really awesome about these is this:
For one, it is one ammonite shell sliced very carefully and thinly in half and then polished so it is a perfect mirror image. Would make good earrings I suppose but I like necklaces.
and Secondly, in each empty space there is a lining of tiny quartz crystals!!!
And they left the outside of the shell untouched so it is nice and rough and has the original nuances and fossilized look!
I can't wait to get these!!!! I love being excited :)

Ooooo, those are sooooo cool!! I'll bet the necklace(s) will look GREAT with those! Hmmmmm, I'm starting to think I like them a lot... ; )
I will be posting my progress with the necklaces as soon as I get them! I like this shape of shell because it reminds me of the one the Little Mermaid wore in the disney movie that held her beautiful voice haha!! I have another regular nonfossilized shell that is the same kind of spiral shape that I need to drill a hole in so I can make a necklace with it. And I also won another ammonite that is a little bigger than this one and darker so there will be choices...!! :)
These are going to make gorgeous pieces of jewelry.
If you ever feel like scavanging for fossils, there's always my parents' shore! I could go out with you sometime, pick in hand... ;)

I would LOVE to go scavenging! Definitely we should do it!!! I want some trilobites. And some shells I remember finding some in our backyard when I lived in the islands! We can talk about when to go at dinner tomorrow night :)
