No Charges in Fatal Truck Accident
St. Johnsbury, Vermont - November 13, 2007
Vt. State Police say a truck driver will not face criminal charges for running over a woman in St. Johnsbury after an apparent road rage incident. The two-week police investigation has determined that Lori Bragdon, 45, was the victim of a tragic accident, not a crime. Police say there is no evidence that truck driver Delbert Degree intended to harm Bragdon.
It happened in a St. Johnsbury parking lot on October 31 after Bragdon angrily confronted Degree about his driving. Police say the truck driver believed Bragdon was no longer in the parking lot when he slowly pulled out. According to witnesses, Bragdon was standing in a blind spot directly in front of the big rig writing down the license plate, when Degree pulled out and ran her over.
"She sees something wrong she has to right it. That's what she tried to do this time," said Bragdon's mother, Judy Thompson, the day after the accident.
Thompson explained that her daughter was easily angered by what she believed to be bad driving, because she had survived it once before. "Lori was hit by a car. She was 13 years old. She was in a coma for nine days and she had a bruised brain. It took about a year to really become normal again."
When WCAX News spoke with Bragdon's family two weeks ago, they said they expected that Degree would face criminal charges. We were unable to reach her family Tuesday because they changed their phone number. However, the state police tell us her husband understandably was not pleased with the decision.

What do you all think about this? I have mixed emotions...

Yeah...mixed emotions, indeed. She may have been in a blind spot, for sure, but perhaps he should have either gotten out of his truck and looked first one last time, or looked out his window or something, to be sure she wasn't still there....UGH who knows...it's hard for sure. I can't imagine being in either place of the driver, and victim...
I just pray for the family and the driver...for sure. And I hope the driver starts driving safer, too, so as to not cause any more road rage incidents...
OK,I'm done now ; )
